Our history

The Drake Music Project started life in Northern Ireland in November of 1992, in the gym space of the old Crescent Arts Centre. Much music has flowed since then, and we celebrate 30 years of very talented music making this year!

Some of our highlights to date include:

  • In our first 30 years, we have
  • Empowered and enabled in excess of 4300 musicians
  • Worked with a student musician of 3 years of age
  • Worked with a student musician of 81 years of age
  • Designed built and performed on our own unique accessible instruments
  • Performed as part of the opening festival of the Waterfront Hall 1997
  • Performed at Belfast City Hall, Opera House, Ulster Hall & Stormont
  • Performed in Iceland, Chicago, Ferrara, & Dublin Castle & Mansion House Dublin
  • Performed on and produced programs for the BBC, ITV and C4
  • Established our own accessible music studios in Belfast & Newry
  • Recorded thousands hours of music from workshops and composition challenges
  • Survived Covid 19 as a third sector organisation, and are strong facing in to the creative future for our participants in Northern Ireland
